Food in the freezer has defrosted

Check the installation: may be too cold

The location of you fridge freezer is very important. If the the temperature of the room is to cold then the fridge will simply not turn on. This means the food in the freezer will start to defrost. As a guide the temperature of the room should not go colder than 10 degrees C.Examples of a cold area could be a garage during the winter or a cold pantry or kitchen. If the appliance shuts down then heat the surroundings or consider moving you machine to a warmer part of your home. Hoover do not recommend installing fridge freezers in garages.

Has the electrical supply been disconnected?

Check to see if the machine has been unplugged or the fuse in the plug has blown. Plug another appliance that is working in the socket to check for mains power. Should this appliance does not work then it may be your socket at fault? There may be an isolator switch somewhere else in the room check that it is switched on. Also check that the fuse or trip has not blown on your consumer unit or main fuse box.

Check the star rating of the machine

Not all freezers are the same - the performance is measured by star ratings where simply speaking the more stars the better the freezing capabilities: One star freezers will only keep food frozen solid for a few days after which it will defrost. 2 star products will keep food fresh for a few months and 4 star machines will keep your food frozen solid for a year. So if the food has defrosted just look on the freezer door and you will see the star rating before calling for the engineer.
